Biography
Samantha Meryhew is a Dancer currently based in New York City. Starting in 2011, she joined The School at TU Dance where her spark of passion for dance began. She strengthened her dance skills at Dance Intensives across the country, including at the Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater, Hubbard Street Dance, and Complexions.
She continued her journey at the University of Minnesota – Twin Cities, where she got to work with renowned Choreographers Garth Fagan, Marcus Jarrell Willis, Brian Brooks, and Kjara Staric Wurst.
Graduating with a Bachelor of Art in Dance and Art in 2019, she became an apprentice at TU Dance where she had the privilege of performing Alvin Ailey’s Night Creature alongside the company. After the impact of COVID in 2020, Samantha kept dancing, performing in works by Honeyworks and HatchDance (Bolero Bolero in 2020 and LDV in 2021). She became a company member with Shapiro and Smith Dance in 2021, performing Ferdougandal (2022), Moonlight (2021), and Burning Air (2021). In 2022, Samantha returned to TU Dance performing in Sensible Existence, choreographed by Marcus Jarrell Willis. She also joined Black Label in their performance of Canary, Crimson, Then Emerald (2022) as a guest artist.
Samantha is grateful for her experience at The Share Intensive in Berlin, Germany. Here she got to work with artists from Akram Khan, Jiri Kylian, Sidi Larbi Cherkaoui, and Crystal Pite. In these workshops she got to learn repertoire from these renowned choreographers and had the space to experiment, play, and let herself dive deep into the works and her artistry. Samantha has a desire to return to Berlin.
Samantha joined the CULTIVATE Training Program in 2023. In this position, she has got to work with prominent choreographers Stephanie Batten-Bland, Yusha-Marie Sorzano, and Alanna Morris in the production The Three Women Project (2023), as well as a special excerpt of works choreographed by Gregory Dolbashian in the production Quiet Home (2022). She has also got to work with upcoming artist Christopher Ralph, where he created A Voyage In 4 (2023). She also had the privilege to work with Yusha-Marie Sorzano in 2024 for her premiere of THREAT. In the CULTIVATE Program, Samantha has had the opportunity to participate in workshops with Alonzo King LINES Ballet, A.I.M by Kyle Abraham, and Hubbard Street Dance.
Samantha moved to New York City to follow her dreams of developing her career as a dancer and an artist and is excited to start this new chapter of her life.
